Brood X is here in NOVA and they are LOUD! We are lucky to get to experience the cicadas before we head back to C'ville in a month. Nick I were here in Arlington 17 years ago with these guys' parents.

It's funny how anxiety can get the best of you, sometimes. At first, the idea of the cicadas coming just before our move back to C'ville gave me an ominous feeling. They added an extra layer of nervousness on top of all the usual feelings and anxieties.
Now I'm so glad I'm here to enjoy it! In reality, they are really cool. It took only a few of these guys to win me over. Sure, they may be a bit loud, and they may fly into your hair, but they are gentle, sweet creatures. I find myself really rooting for them! I have spent many hours gazing at them, watching them emerge, molt, and sing.
Anyway, I'm going to have to get a set of these napkins, I think to remember to worry less and enjoy and embrace what is around me more. What was all that worry for?

Happy #wildlifewednesday – If you’re enjoying the cicadas, one thing to be on the lookout for is different eye colors. There’s a lot of interesting variation if you pay close attention. Sure, on most cicadas you will see the expected red eyes. As cicada activity continues and many seem to be more active at our level of the forest for egg-laying, this is a reminder from one of our favorite bug-hunters to be gentle to the cicadas.
